Zelenskyy: I don't need mediators for communication with Trump inside or outside Ukraine

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he intends to communicate with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump directly, adding that no mediators are needed for this.
"I'm in touch with President Trump. We have had several meetings, conversations. I don't need other countries for this, as well as various politicians who are promoting themselves using this," he said at a meeting of Ukrainian Congress of Local and Regional Authorities on Tuesday.
"I'll be straight: I don't need mediators inside our country either," Zelenskyy added.
The President said he has a mandate of trust from the people of Ukraine for such talks with Trump, but more details are needed for now and the two presidents' teams are working more now.
"It's an acquaintance for now. He [Trump] can't answer many things in terms of his legal capabilities until he is in the White House, until there has been an inauguration of the new President of the United States," Zelenskyy said.
According to the head of state, he expects closer contacts after the inauguration of the new U.S. President.
"We will meet, and only after that I will be able to tell you what of this Victory Plan is supported by President Trump. And what may not be supported. Or maybe he wants to add something of his own. I really believe and hope that he will energize our plan. Add strength to the relationship between Ukraine and the United States," the President of Ukraine said.
He added that before Trump's inauguration, Ukraine continues to work with the current U.S. administration led by Joseph Biden, which, albeit belatedly, is now increasing solutions, packages and funds in support of Ukraine.
"We believe that Trump's team will support Ukraine and will not stop this assistance," Zelensky emphasized.
He also pointed out that the United States has already transferred $20 billion to the World Bank account from frozen Russian assets, which will be used to directly support the Ukrainian budget and Ukrainians.
