Zelenskyy: NATO is sensitive topic for USA, but preventive invitation is important

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that an invitation to NATO could be a preventive step to avert the worldwide spread of aggression, adding that the United States' concerns about the invitation are unfair.

"As for NATO. I talked to President [of the United States Joe] Biden, to [U.S. presidential candidates] Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. It is very important for us to strengthen ourselves, and the first step is an invitation [to NATO]. The stronger we are, the faster a diplomatic decision on ending the war and establishing just peace will be made," he told a press conference in Brussels on Thursday.

The head of state underlined that "NATO is a sensitive topic for the United States. During all this time they thought that the NATO [issue] is dragging the Alliance in the war. Even an invitation for Ukraine to join NATO is allegedly 'red lines'."

Zelenskyy said that this is unfair.

"I don't think that the invitation is some kind of 'red lines'. It is a preventive step to show that it is not Putin who is changing the course of the entire world, but vice versa – the entire world is ready to change one or another aggressor."
