EU Ambassador to Ukraine Jan Tombinski on October 20, 2015 will hand-over state-of-the-art equipment worth EUR 14 million to the National Training Centre which is due to be commissioned in 2016 at Zaporizhia nuclear power plant (NPP), the Delegation of the EU to Ukraine has reported.

The handover ceremony will be attended by Deputy Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Oleksandr Svetelyk and President of Energoatom Yuriy Nedashkovsky.

The EUR 14 million was provided under the framework of the EU Instrument for Nuclear Safety Cooperation (INSC).

"This National Training Centre is a unique realization financed by the EU and the Ukrainian Government together. Both see the establishment of this National Training Centre as the foundation stone of sustainable safe management of Ukrainian nuclear power plants and of a stronger nuclear safety culture in general," reads the report.

This National Training Centre is an advanced nuclear power unit maintenance training facility equipped with a full-scale simulator of a VVER nuclear unit. It will allow NPP maintenance staff to use a large variety of equipment models in simulated conditions. The Centre will provide training based on the best international practices to Energoatom's maintenance personnel.
