MTS not planning to sell assets in Ukraine, not seeking partners in this business - CEO

OJSC MTS is not planning to sell the assets of its subsidiary, MTS Ukraine, and is not looking for partners in this business, MTS President Andrei Dubovskov said in an interview with Bloomberg television channel.

Since last year MTS has considered attracting a foreign partner in the capital of its Ukrainian subsidiary, in particular in order to jointly develop the 3G network. With account of the unstable economic and political situation, the low elasticity of the market, the case for the development of the 3G network in Ukraine may be unprofitable for the implementation by one company, a source on the telecoms market told Interfax earlier.

MTS Ukraine won a 3G license during an auction on February 23, 2015. The company paid UAH 2.72 billion (about $100 million) for the lot.

MTS-Ukraine holds 33% of the country's mobile market. For Q1 2015, the Ukrainian operator served 20.25 million subscribers.

MTS Ukraine accounts for about 8% of the consolidated revenue of MTS. The revenue of MTS Ukraine in Q1 rose by 9% to UAH 2.6 billion, operating income before depreciation and amortization (OIBDA) did not change and was UAH 1.2 billion.
