Rail freight tariffs to rise by 25% by May – Pyvovarsky

Rail freight tariffs in Ukraine will rise in May 2015, the second time this year, Minister of Infrastructure Andriy Pyvovarsky has said, adding that he has already signed the document authorizing the rise.

"Yesterday I signed [the document for a rise in tariffs] on cargo shipment. In a month, approximately, they will rise by 25%," he said to journalists in Kyiv.

As reported, State Railways Administration of Ukraine Ukrzaliznytsia in February proposed that the Ministry of Infrastructure should increase tariffs for rail freight transportation by 25%.

Ukrzaliznytsia acting CEO Maksym Blank said the reason for the decision is the devaluation of the hryvnia and the increase in fuel prices.

The ministry order, which foresees an increase in rail cargo tariffs by 30%, was published in the Uriadovy Kurier newspaper and entered into force on January 31, 2015.

According to the document, tariffs rose by 30% for all cargo, except for coal, for which the tariffs will rise by 10% in February and 18.2% in April.
