Foreigner could be business ombudsman in Ukraine, says official

Not only Ukrainian citizen could be appointed business ombudsman, but also a foreigner, Deputy Economic Development and Trade Minister of Ukraine Valeriy Piatnytsky has said.

"The requirement on the nationality was removed [from the resolution on business ombudsman]," he told reporters in Kyiv on Wednesday.

As reported, the Ukrainian government and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on May 12, 2014 signed a memorandum of understanding for the Ukrainian anticorruption initiative foreseeing the creation of the business ombudsman institution.

Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for Ukraine Sevki Acuner in late November said that the bank has decided to provide EUR1.5 million per year to fund the work of the ombudsman's office.
