Ukraine open to market compromise with Russia on gas, opposes doubling price

Ukraine insists on market-based approach to pricing of the Russian natural gas supplies and is open to compromise, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk said at the energy security conference in Berlin on Wednesday.

"We are ready to pay a market price for gas, but never political. Why has Russia doubled the price," the Ukrainian premier said.

"We are ready to compromise, we are ready to a market-based approach, we are ready to pay the bill," Yatseniuk said.

He added that Ukraine didn't ask for any concessions, but only a transparent market-based approach.

However, according to Yatseniuk, Russia is currently not ready for real negotiations. The Ukrainian prime minister stressed that in the current circumstances Kyiv cannot believe Moscow's words, but only its actions.
