Ukraine wants to see the registration of as many innovative medicine products as possible in the country, Vice Premier of Ukraine Kostiantyn Hryschenko said in Kyiv on Thursday during a roundtable held during the international business conference ABC: Ukraine & Partners.

"We would like to register as many innovative products in Ukraine as possible. The main suppliers should be interested in this," he said.

Hryschenko said a situation in which international pharmaceutical companies sell in Ukraine medicines at higher price then in other countries was unacceptable.

"It's inadmissible for leading producers in Ukraine sell medicine ten percent or several times higher. The government will take all possible measures to bring proper order to this sector," the vice premier said.

Hryschenko also said there was the necessity to change the motivations for the prescription of medicine by Ukrainian doctors.

"A situation in which suppliers work not with the [health] ministries, but with certain doctors, getting them to work with particular medicines, is inadmissible. The motivation should change. Competitiveness should be based on quality-price ratio, and not in holding congresses for pharmaceutical chemists in Jamaica. People should work in another way in Ukraine," the official said.
