Ukraine's state debt rises by 8.9% in 2012

Ukraine's total direct (state) and guaranteed debt grew by 2.8%, or by $1.747 billion, in December 2012, to $64.482 billion, the Ukrainian Finance Ministry has reported.

"In December 2012 the sum of state and guaranteed debt of Ukraine grew by UAH 13,965,758 in the hryvnia equivalent [to UAH 515.405 billion] mainly due to state guarantees granted for loans," reads the report.

According to the report, in 2012, the state debt rose by 8.9%, or by $5.266 billion, from $59.216 billion.

The total domestic debt rose by $4.095 billion or by 18.8% in 2012, to $25.836 billion, while the total foreign debt over the period grew by $1.171 million or by 3.1%, to $38.645 billion.

In December alone the total domestic debt was down by 1.6% or by $419 million and total foreign debt was up by $2.166 million or by 5.9%.

As reported, in 2013, Ukrainian authorities are to pay $9 billion on foreign debts.

Ukraine's total state debt in 2011 rose by 9.1%, or $4.918 billion.
