TikTok becomes main tool of Russian operations against mobilization - InfoLight.UA study
Russian information and psychological operations actively use TikTok to spread anti-mobilization narratives, which has a large and rapid impact on public sentiment, especially among young people.
This is evidenced by the data of a qualitative survey on the impact of disinformation on mobilization processes in Ukraine conducted by an analytical group InfoLight.UA, which was presented to the Interfax-Ukraine agency on Wednesday.
"Since May 2022, InfoLight.UA Research and Analytical Group has been systematically monitoring these influences, cooperating with the relevant services of the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine. Artificial intelligence-based solutions have been used in this work since the end of 2022," said Yuriy Honcharenko, head of the group.
According to political expert Andriy Myseliuk, the main goal of the Russian IPSO (informational and psychological special operation) is to destroy the consolidation of Ukrainian society to resist aggression and consolidate doubts about the possibility of achieving Ukraine's goals in the war.
Experts note that the TikTok social network requires increased attention and regulation, even more than Telegram, because of its viral potential and the speed of spreading disinformation.
As reported by InfoLight.UA, the study is conducted in two stages: a qualitative and a quantitative survey. The results of the first wave of qualitative research based on in-depth interviews with representatives of key groups are presented. The study groups included Ukrainian male refugees abroad and men in Ukraine: military personnel, persons awaiting mobilization, and those who avoid conscription.
The second wave, which will include a quantitative survey, will be completed and made public in about a month. It will allow to systematize the obtained qualitative data and provide statistically sound conclusions for further analysis.
