During training course, servicemen to be required to study norms of intl humanitarian law

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky decided to introduce a mandatory block of training for military personnel to study the norms of international humanitarian law, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said.

"In the context of Russia's ongoing armed aggression against Ukraine and in fulfillment of the international obligations undertaken by our state, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine decided to introduce a mandatory unit on studying the norms of international humanitarian law (law of armed conflict) into the training course for military personnel," the AFU General Staff said in the Telegram channel on Friday.

It is noted that the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine pays special attention to compliance with international humanitarian law in all aspects of military activity, therefore this decision is part of an integrated approach to ensuring a high level of legal culture and training of military personnel.

"The implementation of this decision will help improve the level of legal culture among military personnel and is aimed at ensuring their readiness to act in accordance with international standards," the General Staff said.
