Zelenskyy, Canadian FM discuss preparation of bilateral document on security guarantees for Ukraine

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting in Kyiv with Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly, during which the parties, in particular, discussed the preparation of a bilateral document on security guarantees for Ukraine.

According to the press service of the Ukrainian head of state, during the meeting Zelenskyy thanked Canada and the entire Canadian people for their strong support and assistance to Ukraine during the full-scale Russian aggression.

"We highly appreciate Canada's special commitment, along with its substantial financial, military and humanitarian support for Ukraine since the first days of the aggression. This truly demonstrates the strength of our relations and partnership. I would also like to express my gratitude for the decision of the Canadian government to provide another package of military assistance. It further empowers our Armed Forces in the effective battle against the aggressor," the president's press service said.

During the meeting, Zelenskyy informed Joly about measures to implement the Ukrainian Peace Formula, as well as the preparation and holding of the Global Peace Summit.

Separately, the president expressed gratitude to Canada for its leadership role in the work of the International Coalition for the Return of Forcibly Deported Ukrainian Children, a meeting of which will take place today in Kyiv, co-chaired by the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak and Mélanie Joly.

"For us, the return of all Ukrainian citizens, including children, remains one of the key priorities. We are grateful to Canada for its significant role in the creation of the International coalition for the return of Ukrainian children that will help all our children to return to their homeland soon," Zelenskyy said.

He said Joly's participation in the meeting of the International Coalition in Kyiv demonstrates Canada's powerful role in the process of returning Ukrainian children.

"During the meeting, the parties also discussed the preparation of a bilateral document with Canada on security commitments for Ukraine in order to conclude it in the near future," the office said.

The parties coordinated steps for further dialogue between the two states at the highest level and within the framework of international organizations.
