EU rep following meeting in Davos on Zelenskyy's Peace Formula: EU confirms its commitment to plan, commitment to support Ukraine

The European Union, at a meeting of advisers to heads of state in Davos on the Peace Formula of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, confirmed its support for the principles of this plan, as well as its commitment to continue supporting Ukraine as long as it takes.

A high-ranking representative of the European Union told reporters about this on Sunday following a meeting of advisers to heads of state in Davos on the Peace Formula.

"The European Union reiterated its support for the principles of Zelenskyy's ten-point peace plan and its commitment to continuing to support Ukraine for as long as it takes with confidence that the forthcoming European council would take the necessary decision on the EUR 50 bln economic support package," he said.

According to the journalists' interlocutor, following the meeting, Ukraine and Switzerland, as co-chairs, will make a statement.

He also said that during the fourth meeting of advisers on the Peace Formula, which took place on January 14 in Davos, about 83 delegations took part, including 18 partners from Asia and 12 from Africa. Thus, among the participants in the Global South were representatives of Brazil and South Africa, who were "especially active during the discussions."

"With an impressive line up of high level Ukrainian officials, the Ukrainian side presented the outcome of the working groups on a number of points of the peace plan - point 6 on withdrawal of Russian troops and cessation of hostilities; point 7 on justice; point 8 on the protection of the environment; point 9 on the prevention of escalation; and point 10 on the confirmation of the end of the war. Food security and humanitarian issues, including the abduction of UA children, were also discussed," the senior EU official said.

He also said the Ukrainian side "conceptualized the event and the work of the groups as an effort to prepare the future peace summit, which they would like to hold in the near future."

According to him, Ukraine's Western partners "expressed unequivocal support to Ukraine and its peace plans, with a call on the Global South to make clear to Russia the importance of respecting the UN charter and its core principles in the interest of global security."

"While the Global South partners generally expressed empathy with the fate of Ukrainians and their suffering, some highlighted the need for engaging with Russia's concerns," he said, adding that Ukraine cited examples of past dialogue and even international agreements with Russia that Russia has violated. The African partner noted the importance of Ukraine's message that that hooligans do not always win and that Russia's actions bring wider instability, for example, to the Sahel and surrounding regions, the interlocutor of the journalists conveyed the essence of some of the positions of the meeting participants.

The EU representative also said that Ukraine had proposed holding a leader-level Peace Summit in the near future, building on the preparatory work of the past year.

The EU representative said that on the issue of food security, the EU's Solidarity Lanes had already allowed the movement of some 60 million tonnes of grain and food, and the recent maritime corridor, after Ukraine regained control of its territorial waters, allowed the export of 9 million tonnes of food.
