Ukraine must win the war with Russia and get everything necessary for this - Lt. Gen. Douglas LUTE
The United States of America should provide Ukraine with sufficient military aid so that Ukraine not only does not lose the war, but surely wins the war with Russia.
This was emphasized by Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute, United States Ambassador to NATO in 2013-17 at a special event of the Kyiv Security Forum, founded by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation "Open Ukraine".
He noted that the respective requirement is listed in the Atlantic Council address to the President of the United States on Ukraine’s accession to NATO, which was presented at the KSF.
"This document includes two rather ambitious recommendations for the NATO summit, to take place in 9 months in Washington, DC. The first and main recommendation is that we should provide Ukraine with what it needs to win the war," Douglas Lute emphasized.
He explained that the address authors propose changing the approach to providing military support to Ukraine.
"There are qualitative, quantitative and time requirements for weapons provision. According to all these three criteria, we have not yet delivered what is necessary for the conduct of military operations by Ukraine. We have given Ukraine enough not to lose this war, but not enough to win it. We must change this dynamic and provide Ukraine with everything it needs," the General stressed.
Douglas Lute is convinced that the current mechanism for providing military aid is too slow and bureaucratized: "at every iteration of military aid delivery, the aid arrives too late, and Ukrainians pay the price."
Also, the address authors see it necessary to remove restrictions on the use of weapons by the Ukrainian side to permit strikes to be targeted on all locations that russians use to strike Ukraine, including air and naval bases on the territory of russia.
