Following the agreed EUR 1.2 billion of EU macro-financial assistance to Ukraine, the European Commission will prepare additional financial support for this country, Executive-Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis has said on Wednesday at a press conference in Brussels after an informal video conference of the EU economy and finance ministers.

It will be necessary to provide assistance, but at this stage it is not possible to determine the amount of this additional assistance. If the EU sees massive destruction, it is clear that this will be a significant amount of financial support. It will be necessary and they will discuss this in the European Union, but also with international partners, the Vice-President of the European Commission said.

According to him, discussions on how to restore the country will be held with the IMF, the United States and other international partners of the EU.

With regard to emergency macro-financial assistance to Ukraine, at the beginning of next week, Dombrovskis said that it is expected to sign the Memorandum of Understanding soon.

The first disbursement of EUR 600 million, without conditions, could come still in March. As for the future disbursement of EUR 600 million as part of macro-financial assistance, three months shall pass between the two tranches, the European Commissioner said.

According to him, this is provided for by the memorandum of Understanding, but taking into account the situation in which Ukraine is currently located.
