The National Police of Ukraine said the owner of a leading construction company has been notified of suspicion of kidnapping and extortion.

According to the statement released on the website of the National Police on Tuesday, the lawyer of a company that provided legal services to the owner of a construction firm was abducted on December 8.

"For several hours, the police detained the perpetrators, and then identified the direct instigator of the crime [...]. The owner of a well-known construction company turned out to be the instigator, and the organizer was the leader of a criminal group, who is currently in custody for committing a murder," the police said.

According to the National Police, the kidnapping of the lawyer was carefully planned, and preparation for the crime took place in several stages.

"Having received all the information about the future victim, the performers, members of a transnational group, tricked the victim into a meeting, where they later seized his car by force and, at the direction of the instigator, forced the victim to write a promissory note for $800,000," the police said.

According to law enforcement officers, a few hours after the abduction, the police detained four perpetrators and released the hostage. During the abduction and detention, the attackers reported the course of events to the organizer, who, in turn, to the instigator; subsequently, two co-organizers were detained.

"At present, on the basis of well-grounded evidence of the instigator, the owner of the well-known construction company, they notified of the suspicion under Part 3 of Article 27, Part 3 of Article 146 (kidnapping) and Part 3 of Article 27, Part 4 of Article 189 (extortion)," the police said.

The National Police do not say the name of the owner of the construction company, who is suspected. This is about former owner of the Ukrbud company, former MP, a defendant in the case of the theft of property of the National Guard Maksym Mykytas.
