Ukrainian Armed Forces get new military equipment

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has given new military equipment to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the press service of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council said.

"President Petro Poroshenko gave powerful military equipment at an airfield near Kyiv. MiG-29 multirole jet fighters, Su-27 heavy highly maneuverable all-weather jet fighters, combat and transport helicopters, L-39 training aircraft and unmanned aerial systems were given," the press service said in a statement.

Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov, Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak and Ukrainian General Staff Chief Viktor Muzhenko, who were present at the ceremony, looked over An-77, Ukraine's new military transport aircraft.

The aircraft is "one of the best in its class and fully complies with NATO standards," Turchynov said.

"The aircraft needs just 800 meters of unprepared strip for taking-off and landing, which makes it unique. It is capable of transporting large and heavy hardware, helicopters and 300 paratroopers and should become the main aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces," he said.
