Health ministry registers medicine to treat cancer using relaxed rules for procurement by intl organizations

The Health Ministry of Ukraine has registered Cosmegen, a medicine to treat cancer, using the relaxed registration rules. The medicine will be procured by international organizations.

Ministry resolution No. 883 dated May 11, 2018 has been posted on its website.

The ministry said that the use of this medicine in the treatment of cancer is recommended in clinical protocols, but to date, Cosmegen has not been registered in Ukraine, because its manufacturer was not interested in this. The ministry, according to the law, cannot initiate registration.

"Procurement of medicines through international organizations allows participating in tenders for drugs that are not registered in Ukraine, but have passed international quality control and certification. In case of winning a tender, the drugs are registered in Ukraine under a relaxed procedure," the ministry said.

In addition, according to a posting on the website of the Ministry of Health, it was noted that the drug had already been sent for registration, but the application was rejected due to the absence of some necessary information in the package of registration materials.

The State Expert Center of the Ministry of Health held a number of consultations with the applicant to obtain exhaustive information for the examination of the authenticity of the registration materials for the medicinal product, after which it was registered. In the near future, the drug will be delivered by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to Ukraine as part of centralized procurement.
