Health Ministry within project with World Bank ensures storage of vaccines amid power shortages - Kuzin

The Ministry of Health, as part of the World Bank project to support vaccination, ensured the storage of vaccines in conditions of power shortages and outages, said Chief Sanitary Doctor, Deputy Minister of Health Ihor Kuzin.

"The cold chain is maintained using special refrigeration equipment for storing vaccines, which has been re-qualified by the WHO. All vaccination sites have received modern equipment for storing vaccines," he said in an interview with the Interfax-Ukraine agency.

Kuzin noted that the first protocols and standards for the circulation of vaccines in conditions of power outages appeared in Ukraine back in 2022.

He assured that the refrigeration equipment supplied as part of the World Bank project to support vaccination allows maintaining a stable temperature in the refrigerator for three to five days in the event of a power outage.

The deputy minister recalled that within the framework of this project, almost 100% of refrigeration equipment was updated to create a modern vaccine storage system, a total of 5,168 units of equipment were delivered for a total of $14.7 million.
