Contact Group on Donbas reaffirms commitment to indefinite ceasefire - Sajdik

The Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine has reaffirmed its commitment to the ceasefire, Martin Sajdik, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) special representative in the TCG, said.

"The TCG, with the participation of representatives of certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, has confirmed its commitment to the truce announced with the start of the school year and the unconditional implementation of additional measures aimed at ensuring a comprehensive and durable indefinite ceasefire, including the fulfillment of all relevant orders," Sajdik told journalists in Minsk on Wednesday.

In view of last week's events in eastern Ukraine, the issues of adherence to the ceasefire and civilian safety in the conflict zone were central at the TCG meeting on Wednesday, Sajdik said.

"Recently there has been a rise in ceasefire violations. Last week their number soared by 14%, compared with the previous one, and yesterday alone it reached almost 2,000, which is a sad record," Sajdik said.

He reiterated that all ceasefire violations by the conflicting parties, especially near civilian locations, pose a threat to the population.
