Head of the Bloc of Petro Poroshenko's Solidarity Party Serhiy Samarsky has been killed overnight, head of the Luhansk Regional Military Civil Administration Yuriy Harbuz said.

"Last night, head of the Bloc of Petro Poroshenko's Solidarity Party of the Severodonetsk city council, public figure Serhiy Samarsky was killed. Now urgent investigative actions are underway," the head of the Luhansk Regional Military Civil Administration wrote on his Facebook page on Friday morning.

He added that the identification and bringing the perpetrators to justice is the duty of law enforcement agencies and "our duty to the cherished memory of Serhiy."

Later in the air of 112.Ukraine TV channel Harbuz told about the circumstances of the murder. "At 18:00, Serhiy was on his way home and then really was going to be on the air on LOT TV channel. He did not return home. They began looking for him and, by about 24:00 he had been found, unfortunately, already dead," he said.

According to the head of the regional administration, an investigation is being conducted in connection with the murder, "the police are dealing with this case very tightly." He also noted that the identity of the killers had not been established yet. "No, not yet. I keep in touch almost every half hour with the head of the police and keep it all under personal control," Harbuz said.

Answering the question what could be the motives for the murder, political or commercial, he replied: "I do not think that commercial - it could be either just robbery, because we have a war zone here ... but I personally do not exclude any of the versions that can be considered today."

"Serhiy was really a very serious politician, a worthy person, very respected in the town and in the region. One of the candidates for the post of the mayor of the town of Severodonetsk, if the elections took place, a very significant figure," Harbuz said.

Samarsky, who was an adviser to the Severodonetsk mayor, disappeared on Thursday afternoon before the airtime, Luhansk regional LOT TV channel said on Facebook.

"Last time we talked with Serhiy at 14:40. He said that he would join the air necessarily ... When we called Serhiy at 19:40, he was already out of service," the message says.
