One Ukrainian soldier killed, five wounded in ATO zone over past day

One Ukrainian soldier has been killed and five wounded in the fighting in the area of the anti-terrorist operation, Ukrainian Presidential Administration spokesman Oleksandr Motuzianyk has said.

"Over the past day one Ukrainian soldier was killed and five of our soldiers were wounded while fighting. Ukrainian troops suffered these losses in the Mariupol direction," Motuzianyk said at a briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday.

In the direction of Luhansk fighting lasted 18 hours until midnight. Illegal armed groups violated the silence regime in Novotoshkivske, Zolote and Popasna. At the same time the enemy launched a series of short mortar attacks. There were a total of 11 enemy attacks over the past day in the Luhansk direction, including 4 attacks with heavy weapons, the speaker of the presidential administration said.

In the Donetsk direction militants fired Ukrainian positions at hours of darkness. Svitlodarsk arc, Horlivka agglomeration, Avdiyivka industrial zone and Opytne are traditionally the hottest points. During the day, the enemy has repeatedly used heavy weapons: mortars and guns. A total of 16 enemy attacks took place in Donetsk direction over the past day, including one artillery attack (Luhanske) and 6 mortar attacks (along the entire front line).

In the Mariupol direction the epicenter of the fighting was Shyrokyne, where the enemy has made an unprecedentedly powerful firing of heavy weapons during the day. In particular, between 05:30 a.m. and 06:30 a.m. militants fired 114 artillery weapons on the Ukrainian positions. The enemy also used mortar shelling had been shooting for about 100 minutes before dawn and after sunset. The enemy applied mortars to the other three settlements: Krasnohorivka, Hnutove and Vodiane. Over the past day in the Mariupol direction the enemy has carried out 16 attacks, including nine attacks using heavy weapons.

In addition, militants launched two UAVs flights in the Luhansk direction, and one more (Orlan 10 model was used) in the direction of Mariupol.
