Germany, Austria have no accusations against Firtash

The Austrian lawyer of Ukrainian businessman Dmytro Firtash Dieter Bohmdorfer has said that German and Austrian authorities do not have accusations against his client, and the raid in Firtash's house in Vienna was performed as part of a case where Firtash is a witness, not suspect.

He said that the only case being heard is the claim of the United States. The Austrian court issued a verdict that the case is politically motivated and now the counterclaim is being heard, the press service of Firtash told Interfax-Ukraine on Saturday.

Bohmdorfer said that German prosecutor's office in Schwerin confirmed officially in a letter that Firtash is not a suspect in the case where the activities of a German consultant are being investigated. This disproves statements made by Ukrainian Ambassador to Austria Oleksandr Scherba on April 20.

Bohmdorfer expressed concern about the statements of the Ukrainian diplomat.

The lawyer filed an application on behalf of Firtash to the Ukrainian foreign minister to take measures to compensate damage caused by the ambassador's statements to his client.

On April 20 Scherba wrote on his Twitter page that a house of Ukrainian businessman Firtash in Vienna was raided by the police. He suggested that a new suspicion appeared from Germany, not from the United States.

Later Deutsche Welle, referring to the prosecutor's office in Schwerin, wrote that Firtash is a witness in the case on bribing a representative of the criminal police in Germany.

"Currently Ukrainian billionaire Dmytro Firtash is not suspected… However, his status could be changed," DW wrote.

DW said that now a 69 year old woman from Berlin who under the guise of an employee of the consulting bureau sold information received for bribes from policemen and prosecutors is prime suspect.
