Cabinet gives UAH 300 mln to Social Policy Ministry to buy 700 apartments to families of deceased and disabled ATO servicemen

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has provided UAH 300 million of subventions to the Social Policy Ministry to acquire apartments for families of deceased servicemen and people with disabilities of first and second groups.

First Deputy Social Policy Minister Vasyl Shevchenko said at a roundtable entitled "How to provide antiterrorist operation (ATO) participants with apartments" in Kyiv on Wednesday that taking into account the average cost of one square meter of housing in Kyiv (UAH 7,102) and average area of apartments that would be bought (60 square meters), it is planned to buy around 703-723 apartments using the funds.

The subvention is sent to buy apartments in newly built houses on the primary market and apartments on the secondary market for families of deceased servicemen and servicemen who lost their limbs during the ATO.

According to the state service for war veterans and ATO participants, around 100 persons have the right to improve their living conditions.

It is planned that 20 square meters will be foreseen for one serviceman with disabilities and 10 square meters for each family member.

Head of the state service for war veterans and ATO participants Artur Derevyanko said that an individual approach should be used in each case and larger apartments of better quality should be bought. Funds of local budgets and philanthropists should be also raised.

MP Viktor Kryvenko (Samopomich faction), at present, list of families should be drawn up and the financing and apartment distribution issues should be as transparent as possible.

Roundtable participants asked power representatives to provide the possibility of allocating apartments not only in the districts where servicemen are registered, but in the districts where there is infrastructure for people with disabilities and conditions for rehabilitation.
