President Poroshenko decides to appoint Turchynov Ukraine's NSDC secretary – source
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has approved a proposal to appoint People's Front parliamentary faction leader Oleksandr Turchynov to the post of secretary of the country's National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), a presidential administration source told Interfax on Tuesday morning.
"A decree on Turchynov's appointment will appear within the next few hours," he said.
The new NSDC secretary will be introduced to the council's staff on Tuesday as well, the source said.
Turchynov's possible appointment as NSDC secretary had long been discussed by the country's political figures. Turchynov himself neither confirmed nor denied these suggestions.
When asked by reporters whether he was prepared to take up this post, Turchynov said: "We are ready to work for the benefit of our country. This is the position of the People's Front. This is also my position."
Former NSDC secretary Andriy Parubiy resigned from this post on August 7, 2014.
