Poltorak reappointed as Ukraine's defense minister
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has appointed Stepan Poltorak to the post of the defense minister of Ukraine.
A total of 347 MPs voted for this decision on Tuesday evening.
Poltorak was nominated for this post by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.
Under the law, the defense and foreign ministers are proposed by the president, their nomination is submitted to the Verkhovna Rada by the prime minister and approved by the parliament.
Colonel-General Stepan Poltorak was born in 1965. He became commander of the Ukrainian National Guard on March 19, 2014. He was commander of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's Interior Troops for the period between February 28, 2014 and March 12, 2014.
In October 2014, Poltorak was appointed as Ukraine's defense minister. He has become the second defense minister under Poroshenko's presidency.
