MPs urge Yanukovych to sign law on amnesty of Euromaidan protesters

1 min read

The organizers of the Euromaidan rally have called on Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych to sign the law on an amnesty for the participants of peaceful rallies.

They also accused the president of delaying the signing of the laws that have been passed by the Verkhovna Rada.

"We understand that the president has specific terms [for the signing of the law] envisaged by the constitution, but the fact that people remain behind bars cannot be justified by the fact that one person, even if he holds the top position in the state, is avoiding signing a law passed by the constitutional majority," Batkivschyna parliamentary faction member Pavlo Petrenko said at a press briefing on Monday.

The MP noted that 339 parliamentarians supported the law and it was passed to the president for signing on December 20.
