Poll: Over 70% of pro-EU demonstrators ready to protest as long as necessary
Among the people protesting on Independence Square in Kyiv one half are residents of Kyiv and the other half have come from different regions of the country, according to a poll conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation and Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) on December 7-8.
According to the survey, 49.8% of respondents were residents of Kyiv, and 50.2% arrived from other regions. Some 38% of the demonstrators are aged 15-29, 49% - 30-54, and 13% are aged 55 years and older. Some 57.2% of the protestors are men, and 42.8% are women.
A relative majority of protesters (39.5%) had higher or secondary education, 13.2% are students, 9.4% are non-working retirees, 9.3% are businessmen, 8% are the managers of companies and subunits, and 6.7% are workers.
An overwhelming majority of respondents (91.7%) came to Independence Square in Kyiv on their own, the arrival of 6.3% was organized by a social movement, and the arrival of 1.8% was organized by a political party.
A large majority of protesters (72.4%) are ready to stay in Independence Square as long as necessary, 3.4% until the New Year holidays, 4.4% less than a week, 9.2% two or three days, and 6% only today.
A total of 1,037 Euromaidan demonstrators were surveyed according to methods that ensure a random sample of respondents.
