Non-signature of Ukrainian-EU Association Agreement will complicate 2015 presidential race - opposition leader

The disruption of the signature of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union will make the presidential election campaign in 2015 even more complicated, says Arseniy Yatseniuk, the leader of the Batkivschyna parliamentary faction.

"The year 2015 should become our beachhead for European integration, but we are facing a very hard presidential campaign," Yatseniuk said at a youth forum on Friday.

If Ukraine and the EU signed the Association Agreement, the ruling authorities would have to conduct the presidential elections in line with more democratic standards, he said.

Yatseniuk said also he expected the three parliamentary opposition parties to form a sole campaign staff in the 2015 presidential elections, which, in his view, should lay the foundation for forming a parliamentary majority and a government in the future.

He recalled that he had combined his efforts with former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko earlier, although many didn't believe in this.

"It's all for one and one for all here. There is no other form," he said.
