The foreign ministers of Ukraine and Belarus, Leonid Kozhara and Vladimir Makei, will officially unveil the first border marker on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border on Wednesday, November 13.

"The official unveiling, attended by the ministers of foreign affairs of Ukraine and Belarus, is planned for November 13," Ukraine's envoy for formalization of the state border Leonid Osavoliuk said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

He said the treaty on the state border between the two countries was signed in 2007, but only came into force this year.

Regarding how long the demarcation of the Ukrainian-Belarusian border might take, the diplomat predicted that it might take from five to six years.

He explained that this section of the border includes the Chornobyl zone, where the demarcation has to be carried out using special methods and techniques.

"We are studying the problem and will adopt a separate decision," he said.

In addition, a special group of the OSCE, which agreed to examine this area in terms of its demarcation, has already come up with certain ideas, the diplomat added.
