Witness has no doubt about involvement of Tymoshenko, Lazarenko in Scherban murder

Another witness in the criminal case on the murder of Ukrainian parliamentarian Yevhen Scherban, former Donetsk region Governor Volodymyr Scherban, has said he has no doubt that former Ukrainian Premiers Yulia Tymoshenko and Pavlo Lazarenko were involved in the killing of Yevhen Scherban in 1996.

"As a witness I understand why they summoned me. I think both Lazarenko as the executor and Tymoshenko as the person who ordered the crime were involved in the murder of my colleague, friend and namesake," Scherban said at the courtroom on Monday.

Tymoshenko's defender Serhiy Vlasenko, in turn, said that the witness has to tell the court what he knows about the case, instead of expressing his own opinion.

The witness said that he was Scherban's business partner, and often met with him, as they were friends. The witness also said that Scherban once told him he feared someone could kill him.

"He told me – Volodia, they will shot me dead, I can see that cars are following me, I know what will happen next, they won't stop. And I told him – Zhenia, you should go to the United States. Yevhen replied that he wasn't going anywhere," the witness said.

The witness also said that Tymoshenko and Lazarenko always worked in a single team.

He added that Scherban had business conflicts with both Tymoshenko and Lazarenko.
