Kaletnik to initiate parliamentary hearings on effectiveness of external independent assessment

Verkhovna Rada First Vice-Speaker Ihor Kaletnik will initiate parliamentary hearings on the effectiveness of external independent assessment, as he thinks that this system is not working, the press service of the first deputy speaker reported on Wednesday.

The politician said that in order not to decrease quality in education, Ukrainian higher educational institutions should return to the practice of entrance exams.

He said that the education system, which existed before, was more effective. After all, the form of entrance exams encourages young people to choose and acquire in-depth knowledge of a particular profession, rather than to search on the Internet for answers to tests this year and try to learn them by heart.

Kaletnik noted that the system of external independent assessment needs to be corrected, qw the introduction of external independent assessment was intended to provide equal opportunities to all graduates for admission to higher educational institutions, but this did not happen.

"Only 20% of schoolchildren support the current system of external independent assessment. At the same time, 80% of students are categorically against the tests in their current form. Among the major complaints of schoolchildren are the complexity of questions in tests and the ambiguity of answers to them. Therefore, not all schoolchildren who studied excellently during the year successfully pass the external independent assessment tests," he said.
