Metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine in September of this year increased steel production by 64.2% compared to the same period last year, to 558,000 tonnes from 340,000 tonnes.

At the same time, Ukraine took 21st place in the ranking of 63 countries – the world's major producers of these products, compiled by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel).

According to Worldsteel, in September 2023, an increase in steel production was recorded compared to September 2022 in half of the top ten countries, except China, Japan, Brazil and Iran.

The top ten steel-producing countries at the end of September are as follows: China (82.110 million tonnes, a decrease of 5.6% compared to September 2022), India (11.632 million tonnes, plus 18.2%), Japan (7.020 million tonnes, 1.7% less), the United States (6.718 million tonnes, 2.6% more), Russia (6.2 million tonnes, 9.8% more), South Korea (5.456 million tonnes, 18.2% more), Germany (2.902 million tonnes, 2.1% more), Turkey (2.890 million tonnes, 8.4% more), Brazil (2.630 million tonnes, 5.6% less) and Iran (2.397 million tonnes, 12.7% less).

In general, in September of this year, steel production decreased by 1.5% compared to the same period last year, to 149.316 million tonnes.

In total, in January-September, 63 countries produced 1.406 billion tonnes of steel, which is 0.1% more than in the same period in 2022.

At the same time, Ukraine produced 4.590 million tonnes of steel in the first nine months of 2023, which is 16.9% lower than the volumes in January-September 2022. The country is in 23rd place based on the results of the first nine months of 2023.
