Gambling business accounts for 40% of acquiring in country – NBU Deputy Governor Oliynyk

The gambling business forms 40% of acquiring in Ukraine, the turnover of this segment per week on average reaches UAH 5 billion, Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Dmytro Oliynyk said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

"The participants in this market are quite innovative. This is confirmed by the 'broken' P2P transfer scheme, when it is impossible to identify the participants in the transaction in advance," Oliynik explained, commenting on the validity of the accusations against the National Bank about insufficient attention to such operations.

The deputy governor of the NBU emphasized that as a result of the joint work of the National Bank, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Economic Security Bureau, for the current year, revenues from taxation of the gambling business exceeded UAH 6.5 billion.

"In just one last month they amounted to UAH 300 million more than in the entire last year," Oliynyk cited the data.

He indicated that the regulator continues to study the traffic of operations under the guise of gambling.

"And our reaction was and will be appropriate. We report on measures of influence in this direction on the official website: the information is open and accessible to everyone. Over time, the following decisions and measures will be made," the deputy governor of the NBU assured, who oversees this area at the regulator.

Oliynyk noted that all materials about offenders participating in such schemes are transferred to the ESB, the State Tax Service and the State Financial Monitoring Service.
