Retail trade in Ukraine grows by 6% in January-July

Ukraine's retail trade in January-July 2018 grew by 6% in comparable prices from January-July 2017, to UAH 505.763 billion, the State Statistics Service reported on Monday.

Retail trade in July 2018 alone increased by 3.9% from June 2018 and by 6.6% from July 2017.

The largest increase in retail trade in the seven months of 2018 compared to the same period in 2017 was registered in Luhansk region (23.4%), Zakarpattia (10.9%), Poltava region (10.5%) and Donetsk region (10.3%).

The leaders in terms of monetary indicators of retail trade for the period were the city of Kyiv (UAH 98.607 billion), Dnipropetrovsk region (UAH 45.865 billion), Kharkiv region (UAH 39.965 billion), Odesa region (UAH 37.456 billion), Kyiv region (UAH 35.582 billion), Lviv region (UAH 31.148 billion), and Zaporizhia region (UAH 21.363 billion UAH).

The report does not include data from the temporarily occupied areas in Crimea, the city of Sevastopol, and partly Luhansk and Donetsk regions.

Retail trade in Ukrainian-controlled areas in Donetsk region in January-July 2018 increased by 10.3% year-over-year, to UAH 15.078 billion, while its growth in Luhansk region was 23.4%, to UAH 4.314 billion.

The statistics service says that retail outlets in July 2018 saw a 6.4% increase in turnover compared to July 2017 and a 3.9% increase compared to June 2018. Their turnover was UAH 55.07 billion in July 2018 and UAH 363.534 billion in January-July 2018.

Wholesale trade in the seven months of 2018 increased by 5% year-over-year, to UAH 1.190 trillion.

As reported, Ukrainian retailers in 2017 saw an 8.8% increase in turnover, estimated at UAH 816.554 billion.
