IFC could enter Ukrgasbank capital by year end - Markarova

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) could enter the capital of Ukrgasbank (Kyiv) by the end of the year, Acting Minister of Finance Oksana Markarova has reported.

"I think that the entry of the International Finance Corporation into Ukrgasbank could take place by the end of the year. Today the bank has fulfilled all the terms of the memorandum and the roadmap, and all the requirements from the political point of view have been fulfilled. The only thing left is to renew supervisory council members in line with the IFC's comments. And immediately after this, in autumn, we will agree on the decision on the IFC's joining the bank," she said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

Markarova also reported that the EBRD intends to buy a stake in state-controlled Oschadbank (Kyiv).

"The same thing with Oschadbank and the EBRD. This process is restrained by only one thing - the exclusion of the bank from the list of companies banned for privatization. I hope that the Verkhovna Rada will support us with this change. Afterwards we will move actively enough. Suma Chakrabarti at a meeting in London once again confirmed the interest of the bank. If in September the parliament allows the EBRD to acquire a minor stake in Oschadbank, then perhaps we will have time to do it by the end of the year," she said.

Markarova also reported that at present the issues of assessing the problem portfolio of state-owned banks are being discussed with potential partners.
