G7 ambassadors call to stop blockade of coal supply from Donbas

The ambassadors of the G7 member states (Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada, the United States, France and Japan) have urged to stop blocking the contact line in Donbas and called on the Ukrainian government to carry out necessary reforms to ensure the country's energy security.

"The government needs to modernize plants and carry out major reforms to ensure the country's long-term energy security," reads a statement by G7 ambassadors, released by the Embassy of Italy in Ukraine.

The ambassadors also stressed traffic blocking threatens the energy security of millions of citizens and called on all the parties involved in blocking coal supply from the uncontrolled areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions to unblock rail tracks and roads for legitimate trade.

The diplomats noted the need for the Ukrainian authorities to ensure a transparent and legitimate energy supply system, as well as strengthen public confidence in the fact that municipal companies operate for the benefit of the society.
