Ukrainian Sheriffs documentary selected as Ukraine's entry for Oscar award

The Ukrainian Oscar committee has shortlisted Ukraine's documentary Ukrainian Sheriffs directed by Roman Bondarchuk as an entry for an Oskar Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

"The Ukrainian Oscar Committee announces that the Ukrainian film that will be competing for an Oscar award in the Best Foreign Language Film is the Ukrainian Sheriffs directed by Roman Bondarchuk," the Ukrainian State Film Agency referring to the Oscar committee.

The world premiere of the film took place at the prestigious IDFA documentary film festival, where it won a special jury prize in the main competition. The film was shown on more than three dozen festivals around the world in competitions and special programs and continues to represent Ukraine at the most prestigious film festivals.

Recently, the Ukrainian Sheriffs" received the Grand Prix of the Docs against Gravity Festival in Poland. The film was shown in seven cities of Ukraine: Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Lviv, Mariupol, Odessa, Kherson.

The film tells a story of two locals who act as police officers in the village Stara Zburyivka in the Kherson Oblast in the south of Ukraine.

Roman Bondarchuk is a graduate of the Karpenko-Kary Theater, Film, and Television University.
