Anti-Corruption Agency didn't inform NBU about inquiry against Gontareva

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has not yet received any information from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine about the launch of an investigation into NBU Governor Valeriya Gontareva over her son's deposit in Delta Bank, but the regulator is ready to provide any assistance in the inquiry, the press service of the National Bank told Interfax-Ukraine on Wednesday.

"The task of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau is to identify during the pre-trial investigation if these actions qualify as a crime or not. We also want to note that the National Bank has learned about the launch of criminal proceedings from the media. The National Bank and the Anti-Corruption Agency have not received any information about the launch of the said criminal proceedings. If the Agency turns to the NBU, we will offer them comprehensive assistance in this matter," the statement reads.

According to the statement, under the new Criminal Procedure Code criminal offenses are opened automatically after a report about an alleged offense is received. At the same time, the entry of the data into the unified registry of pre-trial investigations does not mean that a crime actually took place.
