Energoatom plans to cooperate with AREVA on NPP safety, extending reactor exploitation

1 min read

National Nuclear Generating Company Energoatom and France's AREVA on October 29, 2015 signed a memorandum on partnership on increasing safety at operating and new nuclear power plants (NPPs), the prolongation of the term of their exploitation, and efficiency optimization.

"The agreement includes the following areas: servicing and control over reactors, efficiency optimization, electrical systems, pressure reset systems, solutions to manage aging equipment and materials, and other things," the press service said.

"The signing of the agreement is a new stage in the cooperation AREVA established with Energoatom and is evidence of AREVA Group's liabilities in Ukraine. It also shows the possibility of AREVA to supply services to all types of nuclear reactors, including Russia designed reactors," the company said, citing AREVA Commercial Director of Reactors and Business Division Michael Cerruti.

Energoatom President Yuriy Nedashkovsky expressed hope that direct cooperation will expand after the signing of the memo.

As reported, in April 2015, Energoatom and AREVA signed a contract in Brussels on the supply of enriched uranium. Energoatom is also holding talks with AREVA on recycling of waste nuclear fuel in France.
