Ukraine ’s agriculture ministry predicts grain harvest at 59.5 mln tonnes in 2015

Grain harvest in Ukraine in 2015 is predicted at 59.5 million tonnes compared to 59-60 million tonnes forecasted earlier by the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry of Ukraine.

According to the presentation of Director of the agriculture and technical policy department Volodymyr Topchiy delivered at a meeting in the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry, grain harvest would total 59.5 million tonnes compared to 63.8 million tonnes in 2014, corn harvest would be 22.9 million tonnes compared to 28.5 million tonnes in 2014.

The ministry said that early grain crops harvest is estimated at 36 million tonnes compared to 34.6 million tonnes in 2014.

Topchiy said that due to a lack of moisture, winter crops sprouted only on 30% of the fields, although the more exact figures will be received in early November.

He said that due to dry weather rapeseeds sprouted on 20-21% of the fields. This year Ukraine would have one of the lowest figures for rapeseeds over the past several years.
