Loss of Ukrainian banks in Feb exceeds figure for whole 2014

The loss of Ukrainian banks in February 2015 reached UAH 66.027 billion, which is 7.8 times up on January 2015 (UAH 8.504 billion), the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has announced on its website.

"The revenue of Ukrainian banks in January and February 2015 grew by 72.6% from a year ago, to UAH 57.1 billion. The expenses of Ukrainian banks in January and February 2015 skyrocketed by 268.6% from a year ago, to UAH 131.6 billion. The loss of the banking system as of March 1, 2015 totaled UAH 74.5 billion," the NBU said.

NBU said that growth in the total loss of the banking system is linked to large sums being allocated to reserves: funds allocated to reserves in January-February 2015 were almost nine times higher than the sum year-over-year.

As reported, the loss of Ukrainian banks in February 2014 came to UAH 3.452 billion, and in January and February 2014 – UAH 2.642 billion.

The loss of Ukrainian banks in 2014 totaled UAH 52.966 billion.
