Ukraine-EU Association Agreement opens new opportunities for gas cooperation, says Naftogaz

The signing of the economic part of the Association Agreement with the European Union (EU) takes into account Ukrainian interests in the approval and realization of the programs and strategies of the EU for the development of the energy infrastructure, the press service of national joint-stock company Naftogaz Ukrainy has said.

The press service said that the article of the agreement regarding cooperation in the use of infrastructure says that each party is to take into account the energy networks and the capabilities of the other party when drawing up program documents regarding energy demand and supply, energy strategies, and plans for the development of infrastructure.

The agreement says that the parties are to make efforts to promote the use of gas pumping and storage infrastructure and that there is a need to hold mutual consultations or to coordinate actions for the development of infrastructure.

"The agreement foresees that Ukrainian and European companies will work in a common legislative field - our country is becoming an important part of the single European gas market. Ukraine, which has unique technical possibilities for the transportation of gas and its storage underground, gains an additional factor for protecting its interests in the issues of energy cooperation with the European Union," reads the report, citing Naftogaz Board Chairman Andriy Kobolev.

Naftogaz Ukrainy unites the oil and gas production assets in Ukraine, and is the country's gas transit, underground gas storage, and oil pipeline transportation monopoly
