Parliament adopts new wording of law on public procurement

The Ukrainian parliament after several unsuccessful attempts with the minimum number of votes - 226 - has managed to approve as a basis and a whole the new wording of the law on public procurement.
According to an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent, the profile committee noted that in two months necessary changes would be prepared for the law adopted, including those on electronic trading.
Earlier, presenting the relevant legislative initiative in the parliament, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk noted that the Cabinet of Ministers proposes the restriction of the fund, under which public procurement will be carried out in the amount of UAH 300 billion per year, for all companies, the structure of which contains the state stake exceeding 51%.
"We want to eliminate the procedure of procurement from one participant in the form it existed when it was defined by the prime minister or the president," he said.
Yatseniuk noted that the government also supports the significant reduction of terms of public procurement by two or three times "so that schools, hospitals, kindergartens could quickly make purchases."
In addition, the cabinet proposes that the public be given the right to be present during public procurement, thereby strengthening public oversight.
