Government decides to switch to Euro-3, Euro-4 and Euro-5 fuel standards in Ukraine, says minister

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine at a meeting on Thursday decided to switch to the Euro-3, Euro-4 and Euro-5 fuel standards in Ukraine, Energy and Coal Industry Minister of Ukraine Eduard Stavytsky has said.

"Yes, a decision was made… regarding the national action plant on the switch to the Euro-3, Euro-4 and Euro-5 [fuel standards]," the minister said in comments to reporters after the cabinet meeting.

Asked if the government's decision affects the operation of Shebelynka gas refining plant, the minister said that the plant will not be stopped and the ministry is doing its best to start producing Euro-3 and Euro-4 fuel at the plant.

As reported, the effect of the old DSTU 3868-99 diesel fuel and DSTU 4063-2001 petrol standards, which correspond to the Euro-2 and Euro-3 fuel standards, expired from July 1, 2013.

Ukraine has repeatedly rescheduled the complete transfer to the Euro 4 and Euro 5 fuel quality standards. The effect of the outdated standards, which correspond to the Euro 2 and Euro 3 requirements, has been prolonged every six months.
