China's Tianjin Lishen Battery Joint-stock Co., Ltd plans to build a battery plant in Dnipropetrovsk region, and the Ukrainian partner of the project could be a large battery producer in Ukraine – Westa Corporation (Dnipropetrovsk), according to a posting on the Web site of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Administration.

The report says that this was discussed at a meeting of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Administration Head Dmytro Kolesnikov with a delegation from China, which included President of the Chinese company, Qin Xingcai and Executive Vice Presidents Zou Yufeng and Shi Yunhai.

First Vice-President of Westa Corporation Vasyl Pidlubny also took part in the meeting.

Kolesnikov said that Dnipropetrovsk is a center of the Ukrainian battery industry, and over 75% of products are exported to 40 countries.

He also said that as a part of the State Economic Stimulation Program for 2013-2014 the creation of industrial facilities in Dnipropetrovsk for the production of urban and special-purpose electric transport that use autonomous current sources is foreseen. This, in turn, foresees the production of special-purpose batteries.

The report says that Tianjin Lishen Battery Joint-stock is one of the world's leaders in production and exploitation of urban electric transport with batteries.

Kolesnikov said that the main requirement for the realization of any investment project in Dnipropetrovsk region is environmental safety, and modern technologies allow the safe production and recycling of batteries.

He said that in January-February 2013 foreign trade between Dnipropetrovsk region and China grew by 33.2%, to $315.4 million, including rise of 17.4% in exports of goods, to $213.8 million, and a doubling in imports, to $101.6 million.

Total investment attracted from China to the regional economy amounts to $200,000. It was invested in industry and trade.

Westa Corporation is one of the CIS's largest manufacturers of lead-acid batteries. Production is concentrated at Westa-Dnepr and Westa Industrial, whose annual production capacity is 7.6 million standard batteries.
