Ukraine won't soon face tax on deposits, says first vice premier

It's not worth expecting the introduction of a tax on deposits in Ukraine in the near future, First Vice Prime Minister Serhiy Arbuzov said at a press conference on Tuesday.

"I'm sure there won't be such a tax in the near future," he said.

Arbuzov said the public is now one of the major creditors of the state.

"We understand how much such trust costs if we lose it," he added

As reported, the Cypriot authorities are seeking the means to obtain external funding to fulfill the country's existing foreign obligations through imposing a one-time tax on deposits, due to which it is planned to raise more than EUR 5.8 billion.

The European Union and the International Monetary Fund agreed to provide Cyprus with a financial aid of EUR 10 billion to save the island from bankruptcy.

Speaking about the intention of Cypriot authorities to apply a confiscatory lever, Arbuzov noted that such a decision would change global investment flows, in particular, investment in Ukraine, which went through this country, would find a channel to move through another state.
