ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih reports military recruitment inspections causing production disruptions
ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih (AMKR, Dnipropetrovsk region) reports massive inspections by military recruitment centers on the way to the enterprise, resulting in production disruptions, the company announced on Facebook on Friday evening.
"This morning, a massive inspection by military recruitment centers took place on the entrance routes to AMKR, causing some personnel to be unable to reach their workplaces on time. Such actions have jeopardized our enterprise's production processes, which are trying to survive and operate for the state and the people in today's conditions. Specifically, due to the actions of the military recruitment center employees, there was no timely shift change, resulting in the shutdown of one of the key rolling production units, leading to losses in rolled product production," the plant said in a press release.
AMKR always operates within the legal framework and cooperates with state institutions, including in the field of mobilization. Currently, more than 3,000 employees are defending the country in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and 167 colleagues have died. The reservation processes at the enterprise are transparent and comply with the law.
"We consider the actions of the military recruitment center representatives to be demotivating and threatening the further shutdown of the enterprise's production units. We hope that these processes will be streamlined and take into account the specifics and importance of the uninterrupted operation of a strategic enterprise, which is the largest foreign investment in Ukraine and the largest mining and metallurgical plant in the country," the company said in its statement.
ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih is the largest producer of rolled steel in Ukraine, specializing in the production of long products, particularly rebar and wire rod. The company is a major taxpayer to budgets at all levels and the main employer in Kryvy Rih. The enterprise, along with its subsidiaries and contractors, creates over 20,000 jobs, with tax payments to the budget amounting to UAH 4.1 billion in 2023, and export volume of about UAH 25 billion in 2023.
