A memorial plaque to the outstanding scientist and teacher Ivan Gulyi was unveiled in Kyiv

March 23, 2023 marks the 93rd anniversary of the birth of the outstanding scientist, rector of the National University of Food Technologies from 1974 to 2003, academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, two-time laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine, Ivan Stepanovych Gulyi (1930–2004). The swift rise and rapid development of the National University of Food Technologies is inextricably linked with the name of I.S. Gulyi. During his leadership, the material and technical base of the university doubled, a laboratory building, and a sports complex were built, the number of specialties and specializations increased almost sixfold, and the university received the status of National.
Ivan Stepanovych was not only a talented organizer, but also an outstanding scientist and teacher. Academician Gulyi is the author of 600 scientific papers, 18 monographs, and 52 patents. He personally coached 29 candidates and 15 doctors of science, was twice awarded the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology.
Though devoted to science, Ivan Stepanovich Gulyi loved art and was fond of painting all his life. The family has the paintings he created in his youth.
The memorial plaque was put up upon the initiative and at the expense of the Gulyi family (Decree No. 148 of February 28, 2023 of Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko). Mykola Illich Bilyk, a well-known Ukrainian sculptor, People’s Artist of Ukraine, corresponding member of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, is the author and the executor of the project.
