Ukrainian pilots start training on F16 in UK, Sweden – AFU commander

Ukrainian pilots of the 2023 and 2016 years of the year of completion are already being trained on F16 fighters in the UK and Sweden, commander of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykola Oleschuk said on the air of the United News (Yedyni Novyny) communication telethon.

"Young pilots of the 2023 year of completion went to the UK for training [on the F16], as for Sweden, young pilots of the 2016 year of completion with sufficient combat experience went there," Oleschuk said.

According to him, the training system in the aforementioned countries is quite flexible.

"Each pilot is approached individually. They test everyone what they are capable of," the Commander of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted.

In particular, he pointed out that the term of general training of Ukrainian pilots provides for 32 months.

However, on the eve of training, two of the pilots were tested by instructors from the United States, and it was decided that they would be able to learn F16 in four months.

Polischuk stressed that the knowledge of English was an important factor in the selection for training.

"Knowledge of English is key since an interpreter should not work here," he said, noting that this is due to the need for pilots to quickly perform actions during the flight.

"Therefore, all pilots have been tested, there is a high level [knowledge of English], there is also an average level, somewhat lower, but wechose pilots who are already studying in the countries," Oleschuk summed up.
